Bitter old man complains to neighbours, neighbours feign polite interest

Though I'm sure he won points by putting Reagan and Thatcher on a pedestal, not to mention the old "liberal media" canard.

It's all a bit sad really, what he's been reduced to. Until you actually listen to what he's saying, then you realise it's not nearly reduced enough.

Howard slams Rudd on IR, Iraq

Former prime minister John Howard has hit out at several of the Rudd Government's policies while giving a major speech in the United States.

Mr Howard has given an address at a gala dinner for the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, where he received the Irving Kristol Award.

He has told the audience that scrapping the WorkChoices laws is the first time in 25 years that a major economic reform has been reversed.

"That will be a mistake," he said.

"In particular, bringing back the old unfair dismissal laws will stifle employment growth amongst small businesses."

And he has described his disappointment at the moves to bring Australian troops home from Iraq.

Still clinging to the delusion that WorkChoices was a good thing. Even his own party have admitted they completely misread the public on that one. Silly old gonk.

The biggest swing in Australian history gives the removal of workchoices a clear mandate. If the removal of workchoices is "a mistake", does that mean he's saying democracy doesn't work?

Did he ever believe in democracy in the first place?

small business?? what's that? - that's virtually extinct here now because of Howard. As for the rest...urgggggg is anyone taking him seriously anymore.

There's an old saying for the former PM here - when the van comes for you, go quietly.

John Who?

The sad thing is that I fully believe that he believes what he says 100% - he just doesn't get it.

Also, he was addressing a neoconservative gathering and so must have felt "at home".

end of line

I agree.
